Spring Updates

Bath time... it's always a good time at our house. Averie loves it and would, if allowed, splash until all the water was out of the tub on a nightly basis. I tried to get a picture of her with her hair sticking straight up with shampoo... this was the result-- one big ringlet on top of her head!

There has been lots keeping us busy these days, Averie is perfecting her running and knows all of the little crevices in our house that she can fit through... forcing Makena to take the long way around. It makes for a very entertaining game to watch, both girls laughing... neither one sure if they are being chased or doing the chasing! Her vocabulary is growing faster than she is, and now includes phrases! Good girl! (goo giwl), No barking! (no bawdin), and Thank you! (teek too) are among the cute and clever things she's saying, but she'll give almost anything a try.

We have been enjoying the sunshine and taking trips to the neighborhood park. Averie is confident and independent, which, of course, makes me somewhat (very) nervous! She loves going down the slide and will do it over and over and over. To date, there's only been one slide injury... so all in all, I think we're still ahead. I'll try to be better about posting more frequently, after all, I am familiar with the phrase, "a blog with no posts is just a blah....." So, stay tuned for the next post, where I'm sure I'll have some story to share with everyone!
Until then... here's a totally cute picture of a really cool baby!

Mischief...

Ok, so I think I'm a pretty good dog owner-- I use the term VERY loosely, but I try. The good dog owner in me felt bad every time Pippa would empty her water bowl in 30 seconds, and I would leave it empty until I felt like getting up and refilling it. So, I'm at Target about a month ago and I happen upon this 6 Liter water dispenser... I think to myself, score! Now I don't have to refill that stupid water bowl 4 times a day. As hideous as this very useful tool is, I buy it because these days, convenience wins.
I also happen to think that I'm a pretty good mom... but no one person has the ability to watch their child every second of the day (I mean the bathroom doors are all closed, there aren't any knives lying around, you know...). So I'm in the front room getting something so useless that I can't even remember what it was now, and I hear Pippa drinking and drinking, and drinking. Averie, of course is in the family room, quietly playing with her toys... and I think to myself... self, Pippa sure is thirsty... and then I think to myself... NO- Averie is playing in Pippa's continuous watering contraption! I run to the kitchen, and there she is, having a fantastic time, sitting in approximately 5 Liters of water (the other liter was on the wall and soaked into her clothes-- be sure that that thing was EMPTY).
It's hard to get upset at a 1 year old, so I just sighed, and stripped the girl down to the diaper. Her sweats weighed probably 6 pounds, they'd soaked up so much water... and it took 3 bath towels to clean up all that had spilled... because of course I'd filled that waterer that morning! But, so goes our lives. I think I've learned a valuable lesson here, but I'm not sure what it is. Something to do with finding a balance between being a good mom and a good dog owner... for now, I keep that damn thing full, but I run every time Pippa gets a drink, just to be sure I'm not going to have the same debacle all over again!

Here are a couple of cute pictures we've taken over the past few weeks...

My super smart, dorky girls and a trip to visit Uncle Matt at the firehouse.
