Summer Fun!

Wow... have we been busy! Averie is getting a really good feel for what the summer has in store, but she's been a trooper! A couple of weeks ago we headed down to San Diego, for a whirl wind trip to the zoo, a Padres game, and some quality family time in the car! We stayed in the "tree house," really- the 3rd floor of Megan Sullivan's (aka- the best hostess around!) beautiful house! It was such a treat to stay a place that had dogs, Rock Band, and a built in baby sitter, so the kids were entertained and the adults could have fun too!

Our weekends have been filled with Makena's swim meets. Averie's new favorite phrase, "Go, Sissy, go!" So cute! Last night, after a double meet, I was getting the day's filthy clothes off of my sound asleep baby, and she said it in her sleep... clear as a bell. It was hilarious. She loves cheering for all the kids, mostly because with the swim cap and goggles on, she can't tell Makena apart from the rest of the crowd.

I'm amazed everyday how much Averie is growing and learning. She lets us know when she sees a truck, and when she sees Papa's truck (a fire truck). She lets us know when she wants us to sing the "A,B,C,B's," and can pick out the "D" for Daddy and the "S" for Sissy when she's looking at the alphabet in her room. She says, "Sshhh, baby sleeping," (index finger inserted into nostril...) when she sees a baby sleeping... she's obviously the smartest baby in the world. The very best thing that she does though is tell us, "I lalalalala..." Averie talk for I love you. And she says it at the right time, like when Rob is leaving for work, or in the middle of the night after I've changed her diaper. She's so sweet.

Beignets...

I have a great husband. Lots of weekends he wakes up, turns off the baby monitor, keeps the girls busy, and I wake up, 45 minutes later, to the smell of breakfast... just about done. Today was one of those lucky days, and Rob really outdid himself on the breakfast! He made-- yes made-- beignets! Apparently a friend of his brought back a mix from a recent trip to New Orleans and viola... breakfast in the Wahl household! Every pregnant girls dream... waking up to fresh made doughnuts in her own home!

Now, please remember... my child is a Wahl... that does mean that sugar literally runs through her veins. The series of pictures you will see below depicts her experience with the beingets this morning...

And finally....
Yes, that's hair in the face-- covered in sugar-- and wanting more! Oh my... did we create a monster. BECAUSE, as all moms know, every good sugar high is followed by an inevitable crash. A morning of melting down, throwing herself upon the floor, and wailing-- well, only if someone is looking, because why waste the energy on all that fake crying if no one is paying attention-- right?
Anyway, we're midway through the second nap of the day now, and we've all had lots of water to try to wash some of the sugar out of our blood, but it really was a good morning. At one point Rob did say to me... what are we going to do when there is one more running around with these two? I guess we'll just have to make more beignets...

Until next time, here are a few pictures of what's been going on...

"Feeding" (chasing) the ducks at Land Park. Doesn't she know that those ducks are ruthless?? They will take a finger off of a small child if they think there is bread in that hand... and she has no fear.
Blowing bubbles with Uncle Matt on Easter. She was pretty convinced that she could do it by herself... but then would get frustrated when all that sucking in didn't produce any bubbles. Luckily for everyone, Uncle Matt is very patient!!

We've been spending lots of hours "ousside" playing since it's been so very nice out. Averie has gotten good at throwing the ball for Pippa... and then retrieving it herself, since she's managed to find the one ball that Pippa has no interest in whatsoever.
